BIOGRAPHY

Internationally acclaimed singer, actress, and cultural icon María Conchita Alonso is set to release her first-ever tropical album in collaboration with Latin Grammy-winning producer Fabián Rincón and Mexico’s legendary La Única Internacional Sonora Santanera. The first single from the project, “Acaríciame (Versión Salsa),” will debut on June 27, 2025 across all major digital platforms.

This fresh, salsa-infused version of one of María Conchita’s biggest hits, marks a new musical chapter for the celebrated artist whose decades-long career has spanned multiple genres, continents, and generations.

A Bold New Sound

The upcoming salsa version of “Acaríciame” is more than a reimagining — it’s a bold statement. The track introduces a vibrant tropical twist while maintaining the sensual energy that made the original a classic. The full album will include additional collaborations and updated arrangements of some of María Conchita’s most beloved hits.

María Conchita Alonso (full name: María Concepción Alonso Bustillo) — singer, songwriter, actress, former beauty queen, and philanthropist — needs no introduction across the Latin world and far beyond. Born in Cienfuegos, Cuba, her family relocated to Venezuela when she was five, following the Cuban Revolution.

Beyond a successful music career with numerous Top 10 hits and over three decades of touring, her life has unfolded in the media: from the Miss World stage to Broadway, from more than 60 films alongside stars such as Robin Williams and Arnold Schwarzenegger to headline-making moments in both politics and the tabloids. She’s a beloved gay icon.

Alonso is currently touring with ‘the very successful “Despechadas” show, as well as a greatest hits show (25 July 2025 in the Lunario in Mexico City) and her talk-and-music show “Sin Vergüenza.” A symphonic performance with the Houston Latin Symphony in October 2024 was a major success.

After emigrating to the United States in 1982, Alonso made her Hollywood debut in Paul Mazursky’s Moscow on the Hudson (1984), opposite Robin Williams. She went on to star in Touch and Go (1986), Extreme Prejudice (1987), The Running Man (1987), Colors (1988), Vampire’s Kiss (1988), Predator 2 (1990), and The House of the Spirits (1993), among many others. She received an Independent Spirit Award nomination for Best Female Lead in Caught (1996).

She played Lucía in ABC’s Desperate Housewives and starred in the Univision adaptation Amas de Casa Desesperadas. Alonso appeared in the live-action film El Muerto and in Material Girls (2006). She continues to act — with three new films slated for release in 2025.

In 1995, she became the first Latin-born actress to star on Broadway, portraying Aurora/Spider Woman in Kiss of the Spider Woman. (Here’s a small glimpse from that same year: Instagram Reel).

Recording History

Her debut album, Ámbar (Polygram Venezuela, 1979), went gold. The song Love Maniac hit #1 — the first of many chart-topping hits. Her second album, The Witch, featured another #1 hit of the same name. Both were recorded in English.

Her third album, Dangerous Rhythm, included Baby, Baby, her only Spanish-language track at the time. Soon after, Giorgio Moroder invited her to write lyrics and record Vamos a Bailar for the Scarface soundtrack — now one of her most iconic songs.

Her fourth album, María Conchita (A&M, 1984), propelled her to international stardom in the Spanish-speaking market, earning her the first of three Grammy nominations (1985, 1988, 1994). The album achieved Gold and Platinum status and produced multiple #1 hits across Latin America.

In 1994, she released the bolero album Alejandra, named after her popular telenovela and produced by Armando Manzanero. She has since released numerous live and greatest hits compilations.

Today, María Conchita boasts nearly 1.21 million monthly listeners on Spotify, over 79,900 YouTube subscribers, and more than 1.82 million social media followers across various platforms. Her two most popular songs — Acaríciame and Noche de Copas — have surpassed 118 million streams on Spotify, despite being released well before the platform’s existence.

Quote from Maria Conchita Alonso:

“This project means a lot to me, my first time going Tropical" says Alonso.

"It's about honoring the music from where I was born and raised, I guess it's in my blood? And I'm embracing a sound that is fresco, festive, sexy and unapologetically Latin. Plus it's guaranteed to make you dance...”
